Voting for the Sanrio Character Rankings 2024, a popularity poll for Sanrio characters, began on April 11th. This year marks the 39th year of the contest, and 90 characters have been entered. Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin, and Kuromi have monopolized the top three for two consecutive years, but this year attention will be focused on the rankings of Hello Kitty, who is celebrating her 50th anniversary, and first-time entries Petapeta Minirian, BUDDYEDDY, and Hanamaru Obake. Last year's winner, Cinnamoroll, is aiming for her first five consecutive wins, and commented, "Thank you for all the support last year! I'm looking forward to having fun with everyone again this year♪."

The Sanrio Character Awards is a public voting project for Sanrio characters that began in 1986. Voting is accepted on the official website, Sanrio Online Shop, Sanrio's monthly newspaper, Ichigo Shimbun, and elsewhere. Last year, the total number of votes exceeded 44.48 million, the highest number ever.
This year, voting will be accepted until May 26th. The first preliminary results will be announced at 1pm on April 16th, followed by interim results at 1pm on May 9th. The final results will be announced at SANRIO FES 2024, which will be held at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto Ward, Tokyo) on June 16th.
