YAIBA: "Conan" Gosho Aoyama's masterpiece manga is fully animated after 30 years

On May 8th, it was revealed that a new anime adaptation of "YAIBA," a manga by Gosho Aoyama, who is known for works such as "Detective Conan," will be produced. "YAIBA" is a swordplay action manga that Aoyama serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan) from 1988 to 1993, before the serialization of "Detective Conan" began. In the past, a TV anime adaptation, "YAIBA: The Legend of the Brave Sword," aired from 1993 to 1994. The new anime will be fully supervised by Aoyama, the original author, and will be fully animated about 30 years after the series was completed.

Issue 24 of Weekly Shonen Sunday, released on May 8th, featured a poster visual drawn by Aoyama. The visual depicts the main character Yaiba Kurogane holding the Raijinken sword and various swords, with the accompanying copy "YAIBA fully animated" and "Tetsuba is a samurai!!" Aoyama commented, "Whether you know Yaiba or not, please take a look! It's amazing!!!"

"YAIBA" depicts the exploits of Yaiba Kurogane, an unconventional young swordsman who trains in the jungle with his father. Yaiba returns to Japan by chance and advances in his new training ground in search of even greater strength... This is the story. A total of 24 volumes of the comic have been released, with a total circulation of approximately 17 million copies.
