The large-scale cosplay event "World Cosplay Summit (WCS) 2023" will be held in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture from August 4th to 6th. This is the 21st cosplay event that started in 2003, and cosplayers from all over the world will gather in Nagoya to make a “complete revival” of the largest cosplay festival. In 2020, it will be held online for the first time due to the influence of the new coronavirus infection, and in 2021 some real events will resume. In 2022, representative cosplayers from around the world gathered in Nagoya for the first time in about three years, and it was held as a hybrid of real and online. Last year, due to restrictions on immigration to Japan, only 12 countries participated, but this year, 34 countries and regions will participate.
The "World Cosplay Championship 2023", which decides the world's best cosplay, will be held, and teams of two people who have won the qualifying tournaments held in 34 countries and regions will participate in the final tournament in Nagoya. This year, Egypt will participate for the first time, and Yuji Horii, creator of the popular game series "Dragon Quest", will participate as a judge for the first time. Voice actor Toru Furuya will chair the judging committee, and last year's cosplayers representing each country will also participate as judges. On June 3rd, the selection meeting to decide the Japanese representative will be held at Saitama City Plaza North in Saitama.
