"Lookback" box office revenue exceeds 1.6 billion yen, attracting 970,000 viewers

It has been revealed that the box office revenue of the animated film "Lookback" (directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama), based on a manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, who is known for "Chainsaw Man" and other works, has exceeded 1.6 billion yen. The film has been a hit, attracting more than 970,000 moviegoers. The film was released in 119 theaters on June 28th, and ranked first in the box office revenue rankings in its first week of release. Despite not being a large-scale screening, the film spread by word of mouth, and its box office revenue exceeded 1 billion yen in its third week of release.

It has also been revealed that as a bonus for visitors to the third installment, a "Special Book Jacket drawn by Kiyotaka Oshiyama" will be distributed from August 23rd. The book cover, drawn by Director Oshiyama, features Fujino and Kyomoto.

"Lookback" was released in July 2021 on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump +" and recorded over 2.5 million views on the first day. It was selected as the No. 1 manga in the boys' category of "Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022" and was also nominated for the "Manga Taisho 2022". The story is about two girls who are single-mindedly passionate about manga, but then an event occurs that shatters everything... Fujino, a fourth-grade elementary school student who serializes a four-panel manga in the student newspaper, is praised by her classmates, but her teacher tells her that he wants to publish a four-panel manga by her classmate Kyomoto, who is a school dropout.

The anime will be directed by Oshiyama, who has worked as a key staff member on "Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance," "Arrietty," and "The Wind Rises," and will also be in charge of the script and character design. Studio Dorian, which Oshiyama represents, will produce the anime. The fact that Yuumi Kawai and Mizuki Yoshida will play Fujino and Kyomoto, respectively, has also been a hot topic.
