Additional cast members for the second season of the TV anime "Shangri-La Frontier," based on the manga currently being serialized in "Weekly Shonen Magazine" (Kodansha), have been announced, including Yuka Terasaki and Natsuki Hanae. They will play new characters appearing in the second season, with Terasaki playing the pioneer (player) Akane Akitsu and Hanae playing Sheikru, the son of Weiss Ash and the older brother of Emuru.
Akitsu Akane, played by Terasaki, is a pioneer who was recognized by Tenpa's Siegwurm, one of the "Seven Strongest Species," and was given a marking (curse). She wears a fox mask and looks like a ninja. Terasaki said, "I plan to play the bright, straightforward, and energetic Akane with a lot of energy and fun. Together with Sanraku, you will be immersed in the anime as if you were playing a game! I'm really looking forward to playing together with him as Akitsu Akane from the second season!"
Hanae said, "I discovered online games, including MMOs (massively online multiplayer games), when I was in elementary school, and ever since then I have been hooked and devoted most of my youth to them. I would love to play 'Shangri-La Frontier'! It's a dreamlike space! This time I've been given the role of Shikuru. I would like to bring out the best in him so that he becomes a memorable character as a familiar NPC to players who actually play the same game for a long time! I look forward to playing him!"
A key visual was also released showing Sanraku and others facing off against the approaching Lycaon in a night attack. Also featured are Emuru, Saiga-0, Akane Akitsu, and Shikuru.
The work is a comic adaptation of a popular light novel on the novel submission site "Shosetsuka ni Naro". The story is about a gamer who loves crappy games, Rakuro Yomuro, who challenges the godly game "Shangri-La Frontier" with 30 million players. The series began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Magazine" in July 2020.
The first season of the TV anime aired on MBS and TBS's Sunday 5pm anime slot from October 2023 to March 2024. The second season will air on the Sunday 5 slot from October 13th.
