The manga "That Dress-Up Doll Falls in Love" is being made into a live-action drama

It has been announced that Fukuda Shinichi's manga "Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru (Kisekoi)," currently being serialized in "Young Gangan" (Square Enix), will be adapted into a live-action drama. The popular work has also been made into a TV anime, with Nagase Riko playing Kitagawa Marin, a gal who actually loves cosplay, and Nomura Kota playing Gojo Niina, a shy high school boy who is Marin's classmate. This will be Nomura's first time starring in a drama. It will start on October 8th at midnight on MBS/TBS's "Dramaism." It will be broadcast every Tuesday at 12:59am on MBS and 1:28am on TBS.

Nagase plays Kitagawa Marin, a beautiful girl with an open personality who also works as a magazine model. In fact, she loves anime, games, and manga, and wanted to cosplay as her favorite characters, so she made her own costumes, but she was too clumsy and had a hard time coming out with them. In the clothing lab, she happened to come across Niina making a costume for a Hina doll, and asked her to make a cosplay costume for herself, and they deepened their friendship through cosplay activities.

Nagase commented, "When I first read the original work, I thought it was an impressive piece because of Niina's straightforwardness and Marin's charm. When I met the director, he told me that he wanted to value the distance between the two characters. Although they seem to be complete opposites at first glance, they also have similarities, so I would like to carefully portray how these two characters change through cosplay. Marin may have a flashy appearance, but she is also a wonderful person with a delicate heart, so I would like to enjoy playing her as I approach filming. The cosplay hair, makeup and costumes are also very gorgeous, so please look forward to the broadcast!"

Gojo Niina, played by Nomura, is a high school boy who lives with his grandfather, a Hina doll craftsman, and aspires to become a craftsman who makes faces for Hina dolls. He makes Hina dolls as both a hobby and practice, and is good at sewing. He has difficulty asserting himself because his hobby was rejected in the past. Since elementary school, he has been so absorbed in Hina dolls that he has no friends and is unable to fit in with his classmates.

Nomura said, "In the original work, Marin is a carefree, bright, and strong-willed character, while Niina is shy but earnest, innocent, and always works hard. Although they have different personalities, they are completely devoted to the things they love. The innocent and pure interactions between these two characters were so cute and funny that it made my heart flutter. I was also reminded of the importance of admitting that you like the things you like. I hope that the drama 'My Dress-Up Darling' will be a wonderful work for everyone, so I would be happy if everyone will watch it with a warm heart!"

"Kise Koi" has been serialized in the magazine since 2018. It is a romantic comedy about the love between Gojo Niina, a high school boy training to become a head maker who makes faces for Hina dolls, and Kitagawa Marin, a gyaru cosplayer who loves anime and games. Thirteen volumes of the manga have been released, with a total circulation of over 11 million copies. The TV anime will air from January to March 2022, and it has also been announced that a sequel will be produced.
