The ninth episode of the TV anime "Grendizer U" a reboot of the TV anime "UFO Robot Grendizer" based on the original work by Go Nagai, "Darkness Covering the Light," will be broadcast on TV Tokyo and other networks starting August 30th. The Photon Power Laboratory finally comes under direct attack from the Vega Star Alliance. A close-combat unit led by Blacky invades the facility, turning it into a battlefield. Duke, who had been held captive on suspicion of collusion, is rescued by Umon.
"UFO Robot Grendizer" is the third installment in Nagai's "Mazinger" series, following "Mazinger Z" and "Great Mazinger." It depicts alien Duke Freed piloting the giant robot Grendizer to fight against oncoming evil. It was serialized in "TV Magazine" (Kodansha) from 1975 to 1976, and the TV anime aired from 1975 to 1977. Despite its long run of 74 episodes, the anime recorded an average audience rating of over 20%, and was popular around the world, including in Europe, the Middle East, and South America.
The new anime is directed by Mitsuo Fukuda including "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" and "Future GPX Cyber Formula", with character design by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto including "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and "Summer Wars". The splendid staff gathered together, including Ichiro Okouchi from "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury", "Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion", etc., for the series composition and screenplay, and Kohei Tanaka from "ONE PIECE", "Sakura Wars", etc., for the music.
