Takashi Tsukamoto's first special effects appearance in "Kamen Rider Gavv"

Actor Takashi Tsukamoto attended a talk show for the latest installment of the special effects drama "Kamen Rider" series, "Kamen Rider Gavv" (TV Asahi, Sunday 9am) held at Marunouchi TOEI (Chuo-ku, Tokyo) on August 25th. Tsukamoto, who will be appearing in his first special effects drama, said, "I've wanted to appear in it for 10 years. My son used to watch it back then, so I asked Toei, 'Can I appear in it?' But they didn't listen to me... (laughs). My son is grown up now!", drawing laughter from the audience.

Tsukamoto plays Rango Stomac, the eldest son of the Stomac family, the enemy organization of the main character, Kamen Rider Gavv /Shoma (played by Hidekazu Chinen). Tsukamoto introduced the character as "properly evil and strong," and said, "I'm trying to be the complete opposite of Shoma."

He also revealed that he was surprised by the filming techniques unique to special effects, saying, "It's a technique called live compositing, and when compositing scenes using chroma key, you can film while checking the results (in real time) on the monitor. This is the first time I've done live compositing (in my acting career), and even the shortest scenes take a really long time. It's a strange feeling."

The talk show was attended by lead actor Chinen, as well as Hino Yusuke, Miyabe Nozomi, Takizawa Ryo, Chitose Machi, and director Sugihara Teruaki.

"Kamen Rider Gavv" is the sixth installment of the Reiwa Rider series, following "Kamen Rider Zero-One" (2019-20). The motif is "sweets," and Shoma, a young man who loves sweets and comes from another world, gains power from sweets and fights against Granute, an enemy who tries to kidnap happy people. It starts on September 1st.
