"Kinnikuman" is a popular fighting manga by Yudetamago that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1979 to 1987. It depicts Kinnikuman, the good-for-nothing prince of Planet Kinniku, fighting evil supermen alongside righteous supermen. A sequel, "Kinnikuman II", began serialization in Weekly Playboy (same publisher) in 1998. In 2011, the serialization of "Kinnikuman" was resumed after a 24-year hiatus, which also became a hot topic, and it is still being serialized in Weekly Playboy and ShupureNEWS. The comic series has sold over 77 million copies in total, and in 2013 the series reached its 100th volume.

The TV anime series began broadcasting in April 1983, garnering an average audience rating of about 20%. Seven animated films were also produced. The superhuman eraser "Kinkeshi" became a huge hit, with a total of about 200 million units sold.

It has also been talked about that the new TV anime series "Kinnikuman: Perfect Origin Arc" will be broadcast on the CBC TV/TBS anime slot "Agaru Anime" every Sunday at 11:30 pm starting July 7th.
