TOHO animation had teased the announcement of a new anime on May 22 at midnight, revealing it to be the highly anticipated adaptation of "Darwin's Incident," a manga that has swept numerous awards. Further details about the anime will be disclosed in the future.

Original author Umezawa commented, "I tend to get excited about things very quickly, so my initial reaction to the offer was probably, '...Are you serious?' I never thought 'Darwin's Incident' would be adapted into an anime. But as I got involved as a supervisor, I realized that this is absolutely serious. The production team and voice actors are giving it their all. As the original author, I can guarantee this: I think it will be an amazing anime."

"The Darwin Incident" has been serialized in "Monthly Afternoon" (Kodansha) since 2020. Charlie, a "humanzee" born between a human and a chimpanzee, faces the problems that "humans" face, such as terrorism, online outrage, and discrimination.
