Yuri on Ice: Film production canceled Popular figure skating anime

It was revealed on April 19th that the production of the all-new movie version of the popular figure skating-themed anime "Yuri on Ice", "Yuri on Ice The Movie: ICE ADOLESCENCE", has been cancelled. The announcement was made on the official website of the series.

"We have decided to cancel production of Yuri on Ice The Movie: ICE ADOLESCENCE, whose release has been postponed," the company announced on its official website. "We are very sorry that we were unable to meet the expectations of everyone who has continued to support us over the years of waiting. The production committee and all the staff have been working together to create this film and bring it to everyone, and we have continued to hold repeated discussions and adjustments, but due to various circumstances, we have come to the decision that we have no choice but to abandon production," explained.

The production of a completely new animated film was announced at the "Yuri on STAGE" event held at the Maihama Amphitheater (Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture) in April 2017, and it was announced that it was scheduled for release the following year in 2019. However, in September 2019, it was announced that the release would be postponed in order to "significantly increase the scale of the content of the film compared to the original plan."

In November 2020, the official X (formerly Twitter) account explained the production status, saying, "We are currently continuing production with the aim of further enhancing the content of the film." "We are not yet at the stage where we can inform everyone about the release date, and we would like to once again deeply apologize to everyone who is looking forward to the film."
