THE FIRST SLAM DUNK: A one-day revival screening will be held on January 23, 2024

It has been announced that the new animated film "THE FIRST SLAM DUNK," based on Takehiko Inoue 's classic basketball manga "SLAM DUNK," will be shown for one day only on January 23, 2024. Details such as the screening theater and time will be announced at a later date.

"Slam Dunk" is a basketball manga that was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from 1990 to 1996. The story follows red-haired delinquent Hanamichi Sakuragi, who joins the Shohoku High School basketball team through an unexpected turn of events. Under the guidance of Coach Anzai, he aims to win the national championship with captain Takenori Akagi, Ryota Miyagi Kaede Rukawa, Hisashi Mitsui, and Kiminobu Kogure. The comic series has sold over 120 million copies in total. A TV anime aired from 1993 to 1996, which led to a basketball boom and has become popular all over the world.

The new theatrical version of the anime will be directed by the original author, Mr. Inoue, who is also in charge of the screenplay. Published on December 3, 2022. The film ran for 272 days and ended on August 31st of this year. It was a huge hit, with final box office revenue of approximately 15.73 billion yen and audience attendance of approximately 10.88 million.
