The Rose of Versailles: New animated film to be released in the New Year of 2025 Miyuki Sawashiro as Oscar and Aya Hirano as Marie Antoinette Produced by MAPPA

It has been revealed that a new animated film based on Riyoko Ikeda's classic manga "The Rose of Versailles" will be released in the New Year of 2025. The main cast has also been announced, with Miyuki Sawashiro playing Oscar François de Jarge, Aya Hirano playing Marie Antoinette, Toshiyuki Toyonaga will play Andre Grandier and Kato Kazuki will play Hans Axel von Fersen. MAPPA, known for "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Chainsaw Man," will produce the animation.

"The Rose of Versailles" began serialization in "Weekly Margaret" (Shueisha) in 1972, and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. Nearly 50 years after its creation, this timeless masterpiece will be revived on the big screen. Ai Yoshimura, known for "Ao Haru Ride" and "Cheer Boys!!," will serve as director, Tomoko Konparu of the "Uta no Prince-sama" series will be in charge of scriptwriting, and Mariko Oka known for "First Love Monster," will be in charge of character design. Hiroyuki Sawano, known for "Attack on Titan," will serve as music producer, and Sawano and KOHTA YAMAMOTO will be in charge of the music.

The key visuals depicting Oscar, Marie Antoinette, Andre, and Fersen were also released along with the tagline, "Nobly and wholeheartedly, she loved..." The second teaser trailer was also released, revealing a part of the film.

"The Rose of Versailles" is a masterpiece manga by Ikeda that was serialized in "Weekly Margaret" from 1972 to 1973. It is set during the French Revolution in the late 18th century and beautifully depicts the love and life of Oscar François de Jarjayes, a beautiful woman who dresses as a man, and Marie Antoinette, an innocent queen who came to France from neighboring Austria.

In 1974, the Takarazuka Revue adapted it into a stage play, and from 1979 to 1980, an anime series was broadcast on TV. In 1990, the animated feature film "The Rose The Rose of Versailles: Love Me as Long as You Live" was released. In 2013, the first new work in 40 years was published in "Margaret" (same publisher), which also attracted attention. The comic series has sold over 20 million copies in total.
